What Causes Stained Teeth?
Surface stains are our specialty. Yet the question still remains - what causes stained teeth and how can I prevent this? At Idahome Smiles Organic Teeth Whitening we specialize in whitening your surface-level stains all the way down to your dentin layer with our 3-step teeth-whitening process.
Over the years and with diet playing a part your teeth can become discolored by stains on the surface or by changes inside the tooth.
There are 3 Main Causes of tooth discoloration
- Extrinsic — This occurs when the outer layer of the tooth (the enamel) is stained. Coffee, wine, cola, or other drinks or foods can stain teeth. Smoking also causes extrinsic stains. Yet, a fun fact some of the biggest culprits are also broccoli, avocados, and even spinach!
- Intrinsic — This is when the inner structure of the tooth (the dentin) darkens or gets a yellow tint. This can be caused by damage to the teeth by excess fluoride, antibiotics, or trauma.
- Age-related — This is a combination of extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Dentin naturally yellows over time. The enamel that covers the teeth gets thinner with age, which allows the dentin to show through. Food and smoking also can stain teeth as people get older.
So, what now? We all have our vices; coffee, wine, and other foods. Or, maybe we are just getting older. So how can you aid in your brightest smile?
2-steps to healthy/whiter teeth
- Regular cleanings and maintenance of build-up with your dentist. Idahome Smiles prides itself on our business relationships and we personally love the staff and doctors at Harrison Dental. Make sure to mention us when you go to see them!
- Once you have had your initial appointment with us your next step is to look at a program that will fit best for what you are wanting to invest in your smile. We have multiple options for touch-ups. From 6-month full to 3-months, and monthly.
- Our Monthly Molar Bear Membership is probably the most bang for your buck and what the majority of our clients use when planning out their touch-ups. For $29 per month, our clients come in for a quick 20-minute touch-up, and then they are on their way.
The goal in mind is to keep and maintain what we have so eagerly accomplished during your initial treatments. See our Molar Bear Approved results here.
We can’t wait to have you come in and enjoy our Smile Spa. We have essential oils diffusing, massage chairs, and music of your choice. So come on in! We want to change the idea of stigma on what teeth whitening is and love seeing our clients looking forward to their next teeth whitening appointment with us.
At Idahome Smiles, we only use fresh organic ingredients in our teeth whitening gel to provide the highest quality results safely and effectively. We then apply our remineralizing and desensitizing gel to bring back health and happiness to your teeth.
